GRANT'S DESCENDANT IS KILLED BY A FALL

Mrs. F. G. Purdy, Granddaughter of General, Was Patient in San Francisco. Sa n Francisco, Dec 29. – The body of Mrs. Fannie G. Purdy, 34, wealthy San Diego divorcee and grand daughter of Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, who leaped or fell to her death from the sixth story of the St. Francis hospital here yesterday will be sent to San Diego today. Mrs. Purdy was seen by her nurse to run down the corridor. The nurse followed, but was unable to halt her patient. She had been ill and despondent, and three days ago was removed to the hospital.

Mrs. Purdy was married to Isaac Hart Purdy in Adrian, Michigan, in October, 1922. The couple lived for a time in Purdy, N.Y., where the father of the bridegroom Thomas Purdy, owned large estates.

Acquaintances here said that the couple had been divorced for some time. One child, Hart Purdy. Jr., 11, is in San Diego. Maj. Ulysses S. Grant III of the Engineers corps, United States army, stationed here is said to be a brother of Mrs. Purdy.[1]
