In 1841 he was living at Springfield Penicuik, Midlothian, next door to his parents and siblings. He was an agricultural labourer[3]
In 1851 Lewis was a farm labourer at Stell Farm, Eddleston, near Penicuik.
His brother James also worked and lived there.[4]
In 1861 Lewis lived at 1 Flat in Wemyss with his wife Mary and their two children. He was a ploughman.[5]
In both 1881 and 1891 Lewis lived in Links, Wemyss with Mary his wife. He was a coal miner. [6][7]
In 1901 Lewis lived at Cleugh Road, Longridge with Mary his wife, his daughter Agnes, her second husband and their nine grand children. Lewis was a farm servant.[8]
Lewis passed away in 1910.
