Biography

On Apr. 14, 1854, Margaret was born in Essa Twp, Simcoe County, Canada West (Ontario). She was the first child born in the new town of Alliston.[1]

On Dec. 28, 1854, Margaret was baptized Wesleyan Methodist by Rev. J. Biggs in Essa Twp. [2]

On Jan. 28, 1879, she married William Thompson Banting in Thompsonville, Simcoe County, Ontario in a Methodist ceremony. Margaret was 24, of Thompsonville, and born in Essa Twp. to Alexander and Sarah A. Wm. T. Banting was 29, a yeoman, and of and born in Tecumseth Twp. to John and Hester Banting. The witnesses were Ephraim Book of York and Elizabeth Grant of Thompsonville. [3]

William was born on March 31, 1850 to John Banting and Hester Merideth in Tecumseth Township, Simcoe County. [4]

About 1881, Nelson was born.

About 1882, Thompson was born.

About 1884, Kenneth was born.

About 1886, Alfred was born and died the same year.

About 1887, Esther was born.

On Nov. 14, 1891, Frederick Grant Banting was born. He received the Nobel Prize in 1923 and a knighthood. He married Marion Robertson of Elora, Wellington Co. in 1924. He married Henrietta Ball in 1939.

On March 3, 1928, William died at 79 in Simcoe County. He was buried in Alliston Union Cemetery. [5]

In 1940, Margaret died in the Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston, Ontario.[6]
