Biography

Daughter of Cornelius A. Grant and Elizabeth Beththire Norman Grant. Sister of Martha Jane Grant Etier, Andrew Jackson Grant, John Cephus Grant, Sarah Matilda Grant Davis and James Lee Grant. Wife of Columbus Lee "Lum" Davis married Sept 8, 1889 in Weatherford, Parker Co., Texas. Mother of Linnie May Davis Hackett, Margaret "Maggie" V. Davis Huffman, Albert Sidney Davis and Allie "Babe" Davis Hubbard Pearcy. Obit, January 1929, Weatherford, Texas Mrs. Mary Alice Davis, age 61 years died at 12:00 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at her home near Brock, after an illness of only twelve hours. Mrs. Davis was born on Dec 30, 1867 and died Jan 16, 1929. She is survived by her husband C. L. Davis, one son, Albert Davis of the Brock Community, and three daughters, Mrs. J. T. Hackett, near Brock; Mrs. Edgar Huffman, Rander; and Mrs. I. H. Hubbard, Dallas. She is also survived by one brother, A. J. Grant of Weatherford, one sister, Mrs. R. S. Davis of Dennis. Mrs. Davis was born and reared her family on the same farm, spending her entire life with the exception of ten years there. She was married to C. L. Davis on Sept 8, 1889 and the family has been almost continously residents of the county since that date. She was a member of the Church of Christ having joined some 35 years ago and had been baptixed by Rev. W. T. Kidwell in August 1893. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. P. Baxter at the Christian Church of Brock at 3 o'clock Thursday afteroon. Burial took place in the Brock Cemetery.
