Peter Grant, s. of Capt. Noah Grant the 3rd and his first wife Anna Richardson, was b. Nov. 4, 1781 at Coventry, Conn. [Peter's full date of birth is via the marginal note in the 2nd Edition of Pres. Grant's "Personal Memoirs of U.S. Grant." The first edition in 1885 does not contain marginal notes regarding his ancestral family. They were added in 1895 by his elder son Frederick Dent Grant, but not published until 1903.] Peter d. Jan. 10, 1829 from drowning in the Kanawha River at Point Pleasant, West Virginia.
Peter's half brother by his father's second wife was Jesse Root Grant, father of Gen. Ulysses Simpson Grant, 18th President of the United States.
Following the death of his mother, according to Pres. Grant [ibid., Personal Memoirs...] Peter accompanied his father to Westmoreland County, Penn. and by 1802 settled at Maysville, Mason County, KY. On Nov. 12, 1807 at the east adjoining county of Lewis, KY [Kentucky Marr. Rec.], Peter m. Permelia Bean, dau. of Richard Bean and Anna Phillips, b. Nov. 2, 1786 at Lewis County, KY. Permelia d. Apr. 28, 1847 at Louisville, KY.

• v. Peter Buell Grant, b. May 13, 1817, d. circa 1895 at San Jose, CA; m. in 1839, Elizabeth Bradley Hendley.
• vi. Anna Richardson Grant, b. Mar. 10, 1819, d. June 26, 1858 at New Orleans, LA; m. in 1838, Mortimer Oliver Hubbard.
• vii. Permelia Grant, b. Jan. 19, 1822, d. circa 1848 at Keokuk, Iowa; m. in 1841, Dr. Volney Spalding.
• viii. Noah Grant, b. Apr. 1, 1824, d. Oct. 4, 1867 at New Orleans, LA; m. circa 1850, Eliza Colston Marshall.
• ix. Susan Amanda Grant, b. Mar. 26, 1826, d. an infant July 6, 1827.
• x. Rachel Maria Grant, b. Mar. 18, 1829, d. childless Aug. 29, 1853 at New Orleans, LA; m. in 1852 p 24 Aug 1852] Alfred Gray Morgan.[1]
