William Gray, Master of Gray (bapt. 21 Jul 1621-Aug 1660) was the 1st son and heir of Sir William Gray of Pittendrum, a successful Edinburgh merchant, by his wife Egidia Smith, sister of Sir John Smith of Grothill and Kings Cramond, Provost of Edinburgh, and dau. of Robert Smith.
He m. (1) aft. 30 Nov 1637 Anne Gray, Mistress of Gray, daughter of Andrew Gray, 7th Lord Gray and Margaret Ogilvy and (2) Apr 1654 Margaret Blair (widow of (1) Thomas Fotheringham of Powrie, and (2) Sir Thomas Blair of Balthayock), dau. of Sir Alexander Gibson of Durie, Lord President of the Council.
He died in August 1660 at Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, England, accidentally killed while fencing with James Carnegie, 2nd Earl of Southesk.

He was distantly related to his wife - his ancestor was Andrew Gray of Cluny, 2nd son of Andrew Gray, 1st Lord Gray and Elizabeth Wemyss. Andrew's 3rd son William Gray of Methlic had a son Alexander who had a son Patrick, who had a son Thomas who had a son Sir William Gray of Pittendrum, William's father, making them 6th Cousins.
