I was born John Cecil Gray II on November 29, 1953 in Pensacola FL. My father was John Cecil Gray and was born in Tuscumbia AL on 13 August 1912 or 1913. He died in Gainesville FL on 5 August 1965. My mother was Mary Lee Thompson, born in Kell IL on 8 February 1913 and died in Pensacola FL on 6 September 1962. I changed my surname to Hansen after the death of my parents when I was a child.
I have traced my genealogy through census records back to Jonathan M. Gray, born in Lawrence County AL on 6 January 1854 and died on 2 August 1890.
Genealogy prior to that was through the work of Erma Lee Judkins Masters (3 December 1931 - 3 February 2013) and Shirley Gray Buckley. Erma was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution since 1982 and was also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Shirley wrote "The Gray Family: A Genealogical History of the Descendants of Joseph Gray. Her genealogy records trace my history back to Joseph Gray (born 1689 in Bristol, England and died 1741 in Rowan County, NC).
I'm trying to fill in gaps missing from the other family members of Jonathan Gray mentioned above. His children were Emmett Virgil, my grandfather, born 7 October 1878, died 1 October 1956, William Madison (Matt), born 7 April 1880, died 2 November 1953, and John L. (assumed Little, mothers maiden name), born 1890, died unknown.
