It seems likely she was born in Portadown, Amargh, Ireland and her mother may have been Jane Grey (MS Stewart/Stuart). Father may have been John Gray. Her parents are supposed to be Scottish immigrants to Ireland and they believed that the Stewart side was related to the Royal Stuarts. Eden, Auckland, Hannah wrote of her parents: “Father was English to the backbone and very proud of it, too. A Nottingham man, his father was a builder there in Nottingham town. The family came to New Zealand when father was 16, to Nelson, one of the first settlers there. Mother was born at Portadown, County Armagh, of Scotch parents who had moved over to Ireland. Her maiden name was Chrissina Grey, her mother’s was Stuart, both Scotch as Scotch.”"
