Biography

Will of Isaac Gray

Will Book 2 page 108, Isaac Gray Sr. of caldwell Co., KY. In the name of God Amen! I, Isaac Gray, SR. Of county of Caldwell, and state of Kentucky,being of sound mind and of disposing memory at this time, but being conscious of the uncertalnty of human life and that it is appointed unto all once to decease and wishing to arrange all of my temporal affairs in that way which to me seems just, equitable and proper so that my property mey pass accordingly to my wished and be free from all difficult I so make, ordain, and publish this as my last Will and Testment . Item 1, It is my will and desire that at my death that my wife, Jane Gray, have the use and benefit of my Negro man ,Ellick and Matilda his wife, also Bargie and as mutch of the lower end of my land as my sun Garrett and N. O. may think to be satisfied for her support, also as mutch Stock and household furniture as they may think sufficient for her needs. All of above named property, both real and personally, to be sold and divided equally among my children several, to wit: Garrett Gray, N. O. Gray, Lydia G. Adams, Marthey McWaters, Susanna Axley, Mildred Gray and William C. Gray above accured division in the property.

Item 2, It is my desire that Mildred Gray and William C. Gray when they marry or become of age do receive as much as my other children did receive when they were married as a donation.

Item 3, It is my further wish that N. O. gray shall have a certain tract of land containing 80 acres lying in Johnson county, State of Illinois, adjoining his own land by paying $100.00 within-------from the 1st. of August, 1847.

Item 4, It is my further will that Lydia G. Adams, shall have the remainder of my land in Johnson County, Illinois, containing about 110 acres by her paying $1.25 per acre with interest from the 1st of August, 1847, and the said land is given to her and her heirs forever and not to R. S. Adams, her husband.

Item 5, Which should have been named first, I wish that all of my just debts to be paid and my funeral expenses too.

Item 6, It is also my further wish as all of my children that are married is in debt to me now, sum more and sum less, that all justly settle as they may be found both notes and accounts.

Item 7, It is also my further desire that at my death that all of my property, both real and personal that is not disposed of to be sold on a reasonable credit and when the money is collected it should be equally divided between my several Heirs except Marhta Mc Waters and William C. Gray. They shall not receive as mutch as the remainder of the Heirs by $200. each. The above enterllined in eight places which I am in the habit of doing.

Item 8, It is my will and desire that for the purpose of carrying in effect this my last will and testament, that Garrett Gray and N. O. Gray act as my Excrs with full power and authority to effect this my last will and testament eight day of August, 1848 Signed Test: Thomas Early Isaac Gray, Sr. A.
