This profile is part of the Gray Name Study.
Andrew Gray is a member of Clan Gray.

Sir Andrew Gray (fl. 1307-12).[1]

Burke & Burke (1878), assert that Sir Andrew Gray joined Robert Bruce. Anderson (1867), states that Gray was loyal to him, and Bruce ended up giving him a grant of several lands, including the barony of Longfordgund (or Longforgun ) in Perthshire which had belonged to Sir Edmund de Hastings (d. 24 Jun 1314 Battle of Bannockburn).[1][2]

Gray's wife s said to be Ada Giffard, dau. of Thomas, Lord Yester. According to Anderson (1867), they had two sons: [1]

  1. Sir David, 4th Baron of Broxmouth & 2nd of Longforgan (d. 1354/7);[1]
  2. and Thomas (d. aft. 1356).[1]

In the Gray profiles we have two clear cases of spouses be connected from an English progeny which is ex facie difficult to take on board to the exclusion of a native and realistic Scottish line of ancestors. In the one case is the wife of Andrew Gray lord of Broxmouth Janet Mortimer being made a daughter of an English Mortimer to the exclusion of the correct Mortimer of Foulis. This is the other. The English ancestry of Ada Gifford given as wife of this profile is a nonsense. An alternate is suggested in the bio but a better alternate can be found here https://sites.rootsweb.com/~mainegenie/GIFFARD.htm where the Scottish Gifford family of Yester is discussed in detail including Ada's parentage. The article gives many primary sources which can be followed through
