Porter James Gray was born on November 7, 1879, in Port Britain, Ontario, the child of Samuel and Frances. He married Mary Myrtle Shield on December 25, 1907, in Durham, Ontario. They had six children in 13 years. He died on November 14, 1944, in Elmvale, Ontario, at the age of 65.
