Biography

Edward Gray came from Lincolnshire, UK to Boston, MA in 1680 or 1686. He was around 10 years old, apprenticed to a rope maker in Boston. Edward was married twice; his first wife was Susannah Harrison, his second, Hannah Ellis.

According to James Savage, Edward married Susannah Harrison in 1699; she died before 1714. Edward married again in 1714.

Edward Gray and Susanna Harrison were the parents of Anne Gray, born on 16 Mar 1704 in Boston, Suffolk Co., MA.

Anne Gray married Increase Blake on 23 Jul 1724 in Boston, Suffolk Co., MA. Children were: Ann Blake, Increase Blake, Edward, Capt. Blake, James Blake, William, Capt. Blake, Hannah Blake, Susannah Blake, Benjamin Blake, Joseph Blake, Ellis Gray Blake.

Anne Gray died on 20 Jun 1751 in Boston, Suffolk Co., MA.

Harrison Gray, son of Edward Gray and Susanna Harrison, and a brother of Anne Gray, was Treasurer of the Colony of Massachusetts.

Burial

Granary Burying Ground, Tremont St., behind the Park St. Church, in his own tomb near the gate.

dated: Feb. 12, 1753
Inventory: Estate valued at £5,500, including 10 colored slaves appraised at £246.
