William Simpson Gray was born on 08 Oct 1869 in Colbert County, Alabama. . He is the son of Modena McCorkle and William Gray. William married Claudia Johnson in 1922. They had one daughter Willie Louise Gray during their marriage His wife Claudia left him before he died, and they were divorced. Claudia returned to Ft. Worth after her divorce and in the late 1960's moved to Hope, Arkansas. William Charles died in his family home (old William Charles (Alabama) Gray) when it burned down. He died on 11 Nov 1933 in Peach Orchard, Jack County, Texas. [1]

William S[impson] Gray, 64, well to do farmer of this county, was burned to death in a fire which destroyed his home, eight miles east of Jacksboro, about ten o'clock Friday night. The home, barn, and outhouses around the farm house were destroyed.
Passersby noticed the blaze and arrived at the house just as the roof was falling in. Mr. Gray was alone in the house and investigators were unable to account for the origin of the blaze. The badly charred body was removed from the flames.
Mr. Gray was born in Alabama but was a pioneer resident of Jack County. He was widely known throughout this section and was a prominent property holder of the county. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. C. (Alabama) Gray.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. A. R. Bilberry. Interment was in Oakwood cemetery.
He is survived by his daughter, Willie Louise; three brothers John, of Jacksboro; Charles, of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma; Robt. Gray of California; four sisters, Mrs. W. R. Anderson and Mrs. W. I. Ellis of this county; Mrs. Ada Smith of Denton, and Mrs. Stella Hopper of Tolar. A large number of relatives and friends were here for the funeral services, including Mrs. Stella Hopper of Tolar, J. T. Hopper of Granbury, Mrs. Ada Smith, Denton; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Starks, Rusk; Ralph Starks and son of Fort Worth; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Bunnell, Graham. Died Nov. 10, 1933.
