Drakeford Gray was born about 1740 in Prince William, Colony of Virginia, son of John Grey (~1719–~1783) and Elizabeth Drakeford (1720–>1755).

Drakeford (22) married Jemima Gladden (18) (born in 1744 in Fairfax County, Colony of Virginia) on October 8, 1763 in Fairfax, Virginia, United States. Their children were:

• William L Gray (~1760–1836)
• Constance Gray (~1763– )
• Presley Gray (1764–1838)
• Mary Gray (1773–1863)

The Corn Creek Baptist Church in Gallatin County (Kentucky) was built on a plot of land deeded by Drakeford Gray on 6 Apr 1804. The Gray family was rather prominent in the community and contributed to the formation of the church. Brother John Taylor, the Kentucky frontier Baptist preacher who had been responsible for the conversion of Presley Gray, the son of Drakeford Gray, influenced the family to become strong supporters of the church. ^[1][2]

Drakeford died on May 4, 1804 in Gallatin, Kentucky, United States, aged about 63 and was buried in Corn Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Milton, Trimble County Kentucky.^{[3] [4]}
