Lucinda Gray was born on 16 November 1837^[1][2][3][4] in Ohio, United States^[1][2][3][4]. She was the daughter of John Gray^[1][2] and Frances "Fanny" Orr^[1][2].

Lucinda married Smith Van Fossen^{[5][6][7][3][4]} on (04 or 16) August 1865^[5][6][7] in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, United States^[5][6][7].

Lucinda and Smith had 4 or 5 children: Hester Ann (Van Fossen) Porter^[4], Deliah Jane "Jennie" (Van Fossen) Elmore^[3][4], Emma Maria (Van Fossen) Robinson^[3][4], Irene Ellen (Van Fossen) Robison^[4], and William James Van Fossen. Child Hester seems questionable. She was born before her parents were married and she does not appear on the 1870 census when she would have only been 10 years old. However, she appears on the 1880 census at age 20. Possibly a child from a previous marriage?
