Charles Hugh Gray was the son of Matthew Gray and Ellen Deer Gray.
About 1900 he married Marietta Gray, his cousin, daughter of Thomas Ramsey Gray and Mary McLauchlan Gray.
Charles was an electrical engineer and he and his family spent time in California. His two younger children, in fact, were born there.
Charles and Marietta Gray were living back in Springfield, Illinois by 1930. Charles died there in 1937. He was survived by wife Marietta, daughters Lois and Jacqueline, son Charles H., Jr., brother Thomas Gray, and sister Mrs. Jane Linsley.
