Biography

George was born 22 Feb 1860 near the border of Maine and New Brunswick, Canada. He was the son of Jacob Green and Evalina Sylvia Bedell According to a newspaper entry at the time, in May of 1882 George left New Brunswick with three other men "to seek their fortunes in Montana." Sometime about 1890, John and Sophia (Wilson) Boyd and their family, who were also came from Carleton County, New Brunswick arrived in Montana. Ella Myrtle Boyd, the eldest daughter married in 1889 to George Boynton, but apparently her first marriage was troubled and according to the 1900 census Ella and George Green reported they had been married for 6 years (since about 1894). No record of their marriage has been located in existing county or church records. George and Ella Green were the parents of at least nine children. There were stories handed down in the family that there were more that died in infancy. George supported the family as a carpenter in the copper mines and also built several houses in Butte. In about 1925, George and Ella moved from Montana to Seattle where George passed away 22 Aug 1842.
