Lieutenant William Green was born on May 25, 1820 in Rutherford County, North Carolina, United States, the son of Joseph N. Greene and Margaret (Graham) Greene. He was the brother of Joseph P. Green and Samuel G. Green.
William married Catharine Rodgers on November 7, 1841 in Rutherford, North Carolina.[1] They had the following children:[2]

William enlisted as 3rd Lieutenant, Company A, 16th Infantry Regiment of North Carolina. He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant. Unfortunately, William became ill. He resigned on February 27, 1862, suffering from general prostration of the system from Typhoid Fever and chronic bronchitis. He died about March 1863, Strawberry Plains, Jefferson County, Tennessee, having never recovered from his illness.
