Note: Filmer was disconnected as father. I reconnected Abigail as mother - I think that it's the marriage with children of Filmer and Abigail that is incorrect. ~ Noland-165 15:56, 18 February 2016 (EST)

Biography

Mary, born August 9, 1722, was the daughter of John and Abigail Green. She was baptized in Bristol Parish on September 4, 1722.[1]

Speculation: If Mary's mother was Abigail Griffin, and Abigail Griffin married Filmer Green, that marriage must have been after Mary's marriage to John. Or maybe Filmer was a witness/sponsor & John his son married Abigail?

Locations

Filmer and Mary could have been in the same place - Bristol Parish.

Mary was baptized in Bristol Parish.[1] Filmer is said to have been born in "Charles City or James City, Virginia Colony" in 1662 (according to the datafields for his profile) and then moved to Bristol Parish, where Mary was born in 1722 to his second wife Abigail Griffin (m 1720).[2]
Filmer Green is mentioned as one of the two older sons of Thomas Green and Martha Elizabeth Filmer (date 1662 assigned) in Amelia, Virginia Colony. He married Mary Walker. He had at least 7 children born in Lunenburg Co., Virginia.[3]
Counties[4]
  • Charles City and James City were both originally "Shires" formed in 1634 (and immediately thereafter called Counties)
  • Prince George county was formed from Charles City County in 1702/3
  • Amelia county was formed from Brunswick and Prince George counties in In 1734 (Brunswick county had previously been formed from Prince George county: "1720-1732")
  • Lunenburg county was formed from Brunswick county in 1746
Note - Charles City and James City counties were adjacent shires; Charles City County extended west into the area that later became Amelia county. But neither Amelia county nor Lunenberg county existed at the time they are given as a location (birth of Filmer in 1662 or his children prior to 1746).
Parishes[5]
  • Bristol Parish, formed 1643, served
    • Charles City Co to 1702
    • Henrico Co to 1735
    • Prince George Co to aft 1785
    • Dinwiddie Co to aft 1785
  • Bath Parish was formed from Bristol Parish in 1742, and had part handed back in 1744. Bath and Bristol were both serving Prince George Co until Dinwiddie Co was formed in 1752 from Prince George Co, and all of Bath went too.[5]
  • Amelia county was served by Raleigh parish (formed 1734) to after 1785. Raleigh parish was formed, "with Amelia Co, from part of Bristol Parish in Prince George Co and part of St. Andrew Parish in Brunswick Co"[5]
Conclusion: The only location that does not fit for both Mary and Filmer is Lunenberg county, which was never served by Bristol Parish, and which was not formed until 1746. However, the area it was formed from could have been part of Charles City, Prince George, and even Amelia county (but not James City county).
