Eleanor Green was born in Milwaukee, Wis. on February 8, 1911, attended school there, and spent two years and many summers at "Bonnie Oaks," her ancestral and historic home near Portage, Wis. She was a "founding daughter" and member of the first class to graduate from Sarah Lawrence College, class of 1930.
In 1952, she married William Piel, Jr. chief litigator at the law firm of Sullivan and Cromwell in New York City. They shared a Greenwich Village townhouse in the city as well as their "Tree House" country home in Sherman.
Accomplished in music and dance, Eleanor Green was a writer of short stories and novels, including: The Hill (1936), Pastoral (1937), Ariadne Spinning (1941), The Dear Little Doves (1941), Today or Tomorrow (1945), Beautyrest (1947), and Dora (1948). These were republished under the compilation title, Pilgrims and Strangers (1998).
