Eliza Catherine Green was baptised at St Philip, Birmingham on 16 February 1780. [1] At Dalbury in Derbyshire on 29 September 1825 she married widowed naval officer Clement Sneyd, son of John Sneyd and his wife, Penelope Kynnersley . [2]
Eliza died on 14 JUne 1840 at 6 PAragon BUildings, Cheltenham [3] her death being registered at Cheltenham in the spring. [4]
A Naval Biographical Dictionary [2] says she was the daughter of John Cotton, Esq., of Etwell, co. Derby. However "A genealogical and heraldic history of the landed gentry of Great Britain ..." by Bernard Burke says Eliza was daughter of Joseph Green and Elizabeth Cotton. Elizabeth Green assumed by Royal License dated 14 January (1811) for herself and her issue the surname and arms of Cotton only. [5]
