Biography

In 1866, John Sherman Green was born in Wisconsin, the son of Jonathan Heskitt Green and Lucinda Rouse. When he was about 13 years old the family left Wisconsin and moved to Southern California where they became involved in tree fruit farming.

John married twice in his life. First, on May 1, 1887, he married Huldah T. Franklin, the daughter of James Monroe and Fornelia M. (Birdsall) Franklin, in San Bernardino, California. They made their home in Riverside, California, and had two children:

Edna "Addie" Green (1888–1909)

James Heskitt Green (1890–1913)

John and Hulda divorced on June 16, 1895.

John married his second wife, Sarah L. (Driggers) Overhulser, the daughter of John Jefferson and Margaret Angeline (Chipman) Driggers, on December 13, 1897. Sarah was also divorced and had several children. They had no children of their own.

John was 52 years old when America joined World War I. He joined the U.S. Army and served in Company A, of the Army's 412th Reserves at Camp Travis, Texas.

John worked as a farmer and teamster to support his families.

He died at 58 years of age on April 23, 1925 in San Bernardino, California, while Sarah lived on and married a third husband in about 1927.

John's body is buried in the Mountain View Cemetery in San Bernardino, San Bernardino County, California, along with his son, James.
