The DAR recognizes his service for both Connecticut and Massachusetts during the American Revolution. He held the rank of Corporal and served with Capt. Amos Wallbridge, Colonel Read et al. [2]

Zachariah was not a descendant of John Greene, surgeon, but of William Green of Woburn, Mass. He as a grandson of Robert White, one of the "early settlers" of Stafford. He had a pastorial charge for many years at Hempstead, L.I., and died in 1858, aged ninety-eight."
Drake, Francis. Dictionary of American Biography (Houghton, Osgood & Co., Boston, 1879) Page 382: "Greene, Zachriah, Revol. soldier and clergyman, b. Stafford, Ct. 11 Jan. 1760; d. Hempstead, L.I., June 20, 1858. Dartm. Coll. 1781. He served in the army, and was engaged on several occasions, until by a bullet-wound in his shoulder, at the battle of White Marsh, in Dec. 1777, he was compelled to retire from the service. He then studied for the ministry; was pastor of the Presb. ch. at Cutchoguc, Southold, L.I., from June 28, 1787, to 1797, and at Setauket, from 1797 until his removal to Hempstead in 1849. He was a chaplain in the army in the war of 1812."
