William F. Green was born in Georgia about 1821, son of William Green from North Carolina. He died March 15, 1892 in Blount County, Alabama. In Barbour County, Alabama, on December 25, 1848, he married Elizabeth J. Ellis daughter of John W. Ellis and Margaret Saunders from North Carolina. William F. and Elizabeth were in Coffee County, Alabama, in the 1860 Federal Census, as was Elizabeth's father, John W. Ellis. William was a farmer, with real estate value of $650 and personal property value of $200. He was enlisted in the Confederate Army on June 9, 1863 in Coffee County by Captain A.D. McCaskill as a Private in Co. G, 59th regiment, 61st Infantry. Muster roll annotation dated September 1, 1864 reads "Absent sick at General Hospital, Montgomery, Alabama." William F. and Elizabeth were in Blount County in 1870, a farmer with real estate value of $300, and personal property value of $100. After William's death, Elizabeth applied for benefits in July 1908 in Blount County.
