Biography

Mary was born in 1657. Mary Greijn .She passed away in 1741.[1]

Recorded as Marije Grien, she married Hermanus Cooning in the Reformed Dutch Church of New York on 28 May 1676. They had registered their banns on 14 May. According to the record, he was from "N. Albanien" (New Albany, referring to Albany, New York) and she was "out of Vergingie" (a unique spelling that is interpreted as referring to the colony of Virginia). It was the first marriage for both.[2] Note that her given name in this record is often rendered as Marye because English speakers typically interpret the digraph "ij" as a y.

Unknown Origins

Looking at the marriage record quoted below, it seems Mary Green or Marye Grein could be born in England, Netherlands, or New Amsterdam. They were married in the Reformed Dutch Church in New Amsterdam shortly after he arrived. Where/when did they meet?

The other part of the bio says they immigrated together. Need source for marriage in New Amsterdam.
