Biography

William was born in London, England in about 1826. He was the son of William Green and Caroline Stokes.

In 1841, William Green, age 16, was living on Princess Street in the Parish of Stepney, London with his parents, William Green, age 35, carman, and Caroline Green, age 35, along with two siblings, Matthew Green, age 7 and Caroline Green, age 5. ^[1]

William married, at about age 20, to Sarah Ann Hynes.
They were married at Saint Phillip the Apostile in the Parish of Stepney in London, England on the 10th of August 1845. ^[2]

In 1851, William, age 25, Carman, was living in the Civil Parish of Bethnal Green in London at 7 Anglesea street, with his wife Sarah Green, age 25, and their son William Green age 4. ^[3]

William Green immigrated to New Zealand in 1858 and settled in Nelson.
He sailed on board the 'Sebastian' with his wife Sarah, and presumably their four children: William, Eliza, Hinds and Caroline. Their daughter, Alice Sebastian Green, was born en route. The family arrived in Nelson on May 20th, 1858. Also on the voyage was William's brother Matthew Green and his wife Mary. ^[4]

Sarah passed away in 1867, aged about 42.

William's second marriage, at age 50, was to 29 year old Mary Ann Davis nee White.
They were married in Nelson, New Zealand, on the 7th of August 1876. ^[5]

"Deaths. GREEN – On September 10th, at his residence, Gladstone Road, Richmond, William GREEN, aged 91 years. (No flowers by request)."

William was buried at the Richmond Cemetery. ^[8]
