Biography

Asel was born about 1756. He was the son of Aquilla Greer and Elizabeth Lowe.[1]

His fathers will and his will were in this updated profile proving his name was ASABEL and ASEL for short. Where are they? Asa is Asel's nephew. Proven.

        • Warning: Asel has a brother who had a son named Asa, do not get this confused with this line. Asa's Mother was a Bandy. Several names are similar.

His wife was Mary Ann Lowe, the daughter of Samuel Asa Lowe and Ann Haynes. Ann Haynes was the daughter of Henry Haynes and Mary Smith. Mary Ann Lowe married 2nd James Greer, brother of Asel Greer.

ASA GREER and Mary Ann Lowe Greer had 11 known children, they were:

1. William M. Greer, married Mary Ann Hodnett, 9 May 1805, Oglethorpe County, Ga. She was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Hodnett and Elizabeth Wyatt "Betsy" Collier.

2. Edmond Petrus Greer married Mary Frances Hodnett, 31 January 1810, Clarke County, Georgia. (see above). She was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin Hodnett and Elizabeth Wyatt Collier.

3. Nancy Greer married Thomas C. Winn, on 23 December 1819, in Greene County, Georgia.

4 Aquilla Joshua Greer married Mary Williams, on 26 February 1818, in Olgethorpe County, Georgia.

5. Martha Jane Greer married John Lumpkin Garrett Sr., on 14 April 1816, in Greene County, Ga. He as the son of Miles Arnette Garrett Sr., and Sarah Ann "Sally" Horn.

6. Sarah Greer married James Madison Hodnett Sr., on 2 November 1822, in Greene County, Ga. He was the son of Benjamin Franklin Hodnett and Elizabeth Wyatt "Betsy" Collier.

7. Mary Ann Greer married George Henry James, on 7 March 1825, in Greene County, Ga. Henry was the son of John James and John Sturdevant.

8. Priscilla Greer married John James, on 7 January 1823, in Greene County, Ga. John was the son of John James and unknown Strickland.

9. Lucy Greer married James H. Thompson, on 2 April 1828, in Clarke County, Ga. (see above likely at or near Watkinsville). He was the son of James Hardy Thompson, Sr., and Sarah Saye.

10. Matilda Greer married Stinson Smith Jarrell, circa 1831, in Oglethorpe, County, Ga. (at Oak Creek). He was the son of James S. Jarrell and Martha Locklin Griffith.

Will dated 8 April 1790 in Green County, Georgia Will probated 30 October 1790.

Aquilla Greer was born in 1719 in Baltimore County, Maryland. His parents were John Greer and Sarah Day. He married Elizabeth Lowe, daughter of William Lowe and Sarah Groves, in about 1740. They had eight children. He died in 1790 in Greene County, Georgia. Working on Patrick Garrett's Line on the New Mexico Challenge. Asa's will never listed the daughter that married a Garrett. I found the will and put it in for Asel Greer or Asabel First name with Martha's name and Garrett in the will. His fathers will proves he was named Asabel. Find a Grave has some information, so does the family search. Please add back the wills for proof.

Greer-4226 and Greer-2087 appear to represent the same person because: They are both Asa Greer born about 1756 to Aquilla Greer and Elizabeth Lowe
