There are, in Canadian church records, two Joseph Grégoire, each married to a Marguerite Paquin. Many on-line trees have these 2 couples confused. As a result, the descendants are often in the wrong tree. A closer look at baptismal and marriage records for the 2 couples makes a clear distinction:
The first Joseph, born 23 Jan 1774 and baptized 24 Jan 1774 at Deschambault, was the son of Joseph Grégoire and Marie Josette Giroux. He married Marguerite Paquin, daughter of Paul Paquin and Marie Marguerite Perron on 11 Jan. 1803 at Deschambault. This Joseph was a ship's navigator. This was the ancestor originally claimed by Donald Grégoire in his early research. However, parish registers and other legal records show that this couple had NO POSTERITY.
The second Joseph, born 09 Sept 1765 in Deschambault, Portneuf, QC, was the son of Jean-Baptiste Grégoire and Angélique Gariépy. He married Marguerite Paquin, daughter of Pierre Paquin and Marie Josephe Sauvageau. Marguerite was born 6 Aug 1778 in Grondines, Portneuf, QC. This Joseph was a simple farmer. The couple had at least 9 children.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph-Marie by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph-Marie:
