The following is from Jordan's Genealogical and Personal History of the Allegheny Valley, Pennsylvania:[1]
Little is known of the immigrant ancestor of Asa Gregory besides the fact that he came over to America from Scotland, during the eighteenth century, and made his home in the new world. His descendants have multiplied and prospered, Asa's father, Alonzo, son of the Scottish immigrant, married Anna B. whose mother was from Ireland. They became the parents of five children, and resided in Chenango County, New York. Anna B. Gregory survived her husband, and subsequently married a Mr. Tanner, by whom also she had several children. She died October 27, 1824. The children of Alfonzo and Anna B. Gregory were Asa, Polly, Daniel, John, and Anna.
Asa, eldest son of Alfonzo and Anna B. Gregory, was born August 30, 1795, at Oxford or Norwich, Chenango county, New York, where he grew to manhood. On November 9, 1817, he married Arena Spencer, born March 4, 1799, at Spencertown, Columbia county, New York. She was the eldest daughter of Abner and Elizabeth (Lawrence) Spencer, and the granddaughter of Judah and Elizabeth Lawrence. Her parents had in all twelve children; whose descendants are numerous and among the best people in this region.
After his marriage Asa Gregory remained for some time in Chenango county, coming to Pennsylvania in the fall of 1839, and settling in what is now the northeast corner of Farmington township, Warren county. Here the family resided until Asa Gregory died, October 3, 1856, having been the father of eleven children, of whom only two are living at the present time [1913]. His widow, Arena (Spencer) Gregory, on February 14, 1858, married her brother-in-law, Darwin Greene, with whom she lived in Youngsville, Pennsylvania, until her death, which took place on October 26, 1887, while on a visit to her granddaughter, Mrs. Daniel Haughwot. She was buried beside her first husband, the father of her children, in Fairbanks Cemetery, Warren county, near their first home in Pennsylvania.
