Biography

John was born in Mt. Clemens, Michigan on 4 March 1859 to Andrew and Mary (Snoblen) Greiner[1].

John grew up on the family farm in Mt. Clemens[2].

John married Julia Anna Dupray in Mt. Clemens on 15 April 1885[3][4].

In January of the following year, John and Julia had their only child, Nellie. Only 18 months later, Julia would go to be with The Lord. John left Nellie in the care of Julia's mother, Nancy (Voiland) Dupray and made his way north to work in the lumber camps.

Just a little over a year later, John came down with typhoid fever and joined his beloved Julia in the afterlife[5].

Research Notes

Place of death
Did John pass away in Le Anse, Macomb County or in L'Anse, Baraga County?
John's death record states he died in "Le Anse" and it would be easy to believe this is a town or area in Macomb County since the document is a ledger for deaths in Macomb County[5]. Add to the confusion there is a school district in Macomb County named "L'Anse Creuse." However, it is told that after John's wife passed away, he went to work in the lumber camps up north and the lumber industry was in full bloom in L'Anse at the time he would have been there[1].
Browsing the pages of the county ledger it is easily apparent there are a number of deaths that took place outside of Macomb County and recorded in the county record.
It is my belief he went to the U.P. and worked logging in or near L'Anse, then contracted Typhoid and died. In that his family still lived in Macomb, his body was likely returned to his parents and his death recorded by the county since it was his home of record. James R. Greiner 3/18/18.
