Jane was born about 14 June 1809 (year uncertain). She fairly consistently said in census records that she was old than her husband, but just how many years older is uncertain.
Her brother-in-law David Nevius and nephew Peter Nevius were living with the Martins during the 1850 Census.
She passed away on 02 February 1897. According to her obituary in the Bureau County Tribune (12 February 1897), funeral services were held at the Christian Church, conducted by Rev. Holt at 2 P.M. on February 4th. "She was one of the oldest residents of the county having lived in this vicinity over 50 years."
