Biography

She was known as Isabel de Gressenhall, or Gressinghall. (She is sometimes referred to as Isabel Fitz William, for example by Richardson once, although this would mean "son of" in this period?)

She married:

1. Beringer de Cressi
2. William de Huntingfield
3. Osmund de Stutevil

Richardson notes more recent sources not yet consulted for this article:

Isabel de Gressenhall's family and marriages are also discussed in Brown, Sibton Abbey Cartularies & Charters 1 (Suffolk Charters 7) (1985): 21–22 (re. Cressy fam.), 64, 91–92; 2 (Suffolk Charters 8) (1986): 53–56; 3 (Suffolk Charters 9) (1987): 152; 4 (Suffolk Charters 10) (1988): 4–5.

Isabel was the the eventual heiress of William Fitz Roger of Gressenhall and Castleacre and Æliva. There is a difference between the pedigree shown by Carthew, and the one later proposed by Farrer. Carthew (like Blomefield under Gressinghall) has more generations: Wimer, Roger, William, Roger, William, Isabel. Farrer later wrote:

The descent of this fee from the younger Roger is not clear, but the main fine ended in an heiress Isabel, apparently Roger's sister and heir. She is said to have been first married to Berenger de Cressi. She married secondly Osmund de Stutevill, with whom she joined in confirming to Castleacre the gifts of her ancestors, namely Wimar the seneschal of Gressenhall, Roger his son, Walter son of Wimar, William son of Roger, Roger son of William and Drew his brother, and Berenger de Cressi.

In other words Farrer has Wimer, Roger, William, Isabel - less generations, with the younger Roger and Drew being her antecessors (predecessors), in fact brothers, but not literally ancestors in the modern sense. Keats-Rohan follows this approach in her Domesday People in the entry for Wimer where she calls Isabel Wimer's great grand daughter.

Some of the key charters Farrer and the others cite are in Dugdale, Monasticon Anglicanum V, p.52. Another involving Wendling is here.

Richardson has pointed out that Isabel was apparently a very close relative of the Fréville family, noting that Complete Peerage says "In Harl MS. 506 she appears as Isabel de Fréville and is stated to have died in 1209." Richardson wrote:

So far, we have not seen any indication as to why Complete Peerage stated that Isabel de Gressenhall, wife of William de Huntingfield, was also known as Isabel de Fréville. However, in recent time, I located the following charter dated c.1190 issued by Isabel, lady of Gressighehalia [Gressenhall] granting Roger de Freville her brother [fratri meo] her holding in Wellingham, Norfolk. Reference: Stevenson, Report on the Manuscripts of Lord Middleton (Historical Manuscripts Commission 69) (1911): 34–35, which may be viewed at the following weblink: https://archive.org/details/repwollatonhall00greauoft/page/n53/mode/1up

Marriages and Children

Married first to Osmund de Stuteville. He died circa 1192. They had sons John and William? Or William and Roger?

Married second to Sir William de Huntingfield sometime prior to 1194. They had son Sir Roger, and daughters Alice, Sarah, Isabel and Margery.

The blocks removed seem to be from Blomefield, one of several possible sources we can use, but they all spin the charters differently. I'll try to carefully replace it, or otherwise at least make a proper citation

Her birth date is obviously a typo.

Fitzroger-12 and Gressenhall-1 appear to represent the same person because: based on husband and relationships, these are intended to be the same person

Seems to be a problem with birth/death date. As is, she would have been 9yrs old at death.
