He was the son of Sir Thomas Robinson, 1st Baron Grantham and Lady Mary Jemima Yorke.

  • He succeeded his father as 3rd Baron Grantham, of Grantham, Lincolnshire, England and to the estate of Topcliffe, Yorkshire. [G.B., 1761] on 20 July 1786.
  • He succeeded his cousin, Sir Norton ROBINSON, in the title of 6th Baronet Robinson, of Newby, Yorkshire, England. [E., 1690] in 1792.
  • He succeeded to the title of 6th Baron Lucas of Crudwell, co. Wilts [E., 1663] on 4 May 1833.
  • He succeeded to the title of 2nd Earl de Grey of Wrest, co. Bedford [U.K., 1816] on 4 May 1833.
  • He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Garter (KG).

Name Changes

  • On 7 May 1803 his name was legally changed from his patronymic name of Robinson to Thomas Philip Weddell by Royal Licence. He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire.
  • On 23 June 1833 his name was legally changed once again, from Weddell to Thomas Philip de Grey by Royal Licence.[4][5]
