Thomas Grey, 2nd Earl of Stamford was born in 1654. He was the son of Thomas Grey, Lord Grey and Lady Dorothy Bourchier. Some time between 21 August 1673 and 13 April 1675 he m.(1) Elizabeth Harvey (c.1657–1687), daughter of Sir Daniel Harvey of Combe, Surrey, and Elizabeth Montagu, daughter of Edward Montagu, 2nd Baron Montagu; her dowery was reportedly £10,000 and (2) Mary Maynard (d. Nov 1722), daughter of Joseph Maynard of Gunnersbury, Middlesex and Mary Mosley, on 12 March 1690/91. From his first marriage, Stamford had three children, all of whom died in infancy; he had no children by his second marriage. He died on 31 January 1720, buried at Bradgate, Leicestershire.
