Biography

1776 Project
Thomas Gridley performed Patriotic Service in the American Revolution.

The son of Thomas Gridley (1683-1754) and Elizabeth Bronson (1688-1767), Thomas was born in Farmington in 1727.[1][2] He married Hannah Goodrich (1725-1767), the daughter of Ephraim Goodrich and Hannah Steele, in Farmington on January 11, 1749/50. Their children included:

  1. Thomas Gridley (1754-)[3]
  2. Selah Gridley (1757-1825)[4]
  3. Elijah Gridley (1760-1834)[5]

Marriage: 11 Jan 1749 Farmington, CT [6]

His wife passed away in 1767 and he remarried, marrying Mary Hooker (1731-1819), the daughter of Andrew Hooker and Mary Lee, on June 23, 1768.[7] Residing in Kensington Township, their children included:

  1. Giles Gridley (1769-1866)[8]
  2. Hooker Thomas Gridley (1775-1857)[9]

They migrated west to New York, settling in Onondaga County,[10] where he passed away at the age of 77.[7] He is believed to be buried there.

Research Notes

According to account, a descendant of Mary Hooker, Frank Gridley Fowler, her remains from Pompey and moved them, presumably back to Connecticut. There is no mention in the Hooker descendants book if Thomas' remains were also moved.[7]
