Biography

Mary Gridley, daughter of Robert Gridley and his wife, Mary, was born on 12 December 1806 and was baptised the following day at St Mary Magdalene in Richmond. She married shoemaker, Richard Pontifex, at Isleworth on 17 MArch 1833. They made their home in Richmond. Richard died in 1850 but they managed to have a number of children, and their details can be seen in later census records where Mary is head of household. Mary died in 1881 aged 74. Her death was registered at Richmond.
