Biography

Asa Hudson Griffin was born on 2 Feb. 1840 at Jasper, Steuben County, New York, USA.^[1][2] He appeared on the census of 1 Sep. 1850 in the household of his parents, Asa Griffin and Diadama (Hudson) Griffin, at Jasper, Steuben County, New York.^[3] He appeared on the census of 14 June 1860 in the household of his parents at Jasper, Steuben County, New York.^[4]

He married Jerusia Chatfield, daughter of Ezra Chatfield and Zipporah (--?--) Chatfield, in April 1865.^[1]

He was a cooper when he and Jerusia appeared on the census of 30 Aug. 1870 at Jasper, Steuben County, New York.^[5] He was an agent in 1899 at New Castle, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania.^[6] He was in attendance when his sister Mary Jane (Griffin) Smith was executrick for the estate of Roswell Beckwith Griffin with Mary Jane (--?--) on 31 March 1899 at Surrogate's Court at City Hall, Hornellsville, Steuben Co., New York.^[7]

He visited Herman Willis Smith in 1919 at Kansas.^[2]

Asa died on 9 Nov. 1920 at Hotel Atlas, Butler, Butler County, Pennsylvania, at age 80 and was buried by his second wife at New Castle, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania.^[2]

The photos, copies in images, were included in a photo album belonging to Diadama (Hudson) Griffin, mother of Asa, and later to Mary Jane (Griffin) Smith, his sister. The handwriting is likely Mary Jane's.
