Biography

Truman Alvah Griffin was born on 24 May 1875 at McDonough Co., Illinois, USA.[1] He appeared on the census of 10 June 1880 in the home of his parents, William Addison Griffin and Mary Jane (Herlocker), at New Salem Township, McDonough Co., Illinois.[2] His father died in 1896 and he appeared on the census of 11 June 1900 in the household of his mother at Macomb, McDonough Co., Illinois.[3]

He married Bertha Ethel Auld, daughter of John Auld and Elizabeth (Love) Auld, on 1 May 1901 at Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois. [4][1][5]

He married Edyth May Cabeen, daughter of Robert Cabeen and Mary (Pinkerton) , on 27 Jun 1906 at Aledo, Mercer Co., Illinois.[1] [5]

He was a dentist in general practice when he and Edyth appeared on the census of 7 Jan. 1920 at 1727 Grand Ave., Cedar Rapids, Linn County, Iowa.[6] He was a dentist when he and Edyth appeared on the census of 18 April 1930 at Cedar Rapids, Linn County, Iowa.[7]

Truman died on 9 May 1940 at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at age 64.[1]

Dr. Truman Alvah Griffin, dentist, former resident of Cedar Rapids and recently of Chicago, died in a local hospital at 4:05 P.M. Thursday following a long illness. Born May 24, 1875, near Macomb, Ill., he came in 1914 from Macomb to Cedar Rapids where he practiced until 1934 when he moved to Chicago. On May 1, 1901, at Chicago he was married to Bertha E. Auld, who preceded him in death. In 1905 he was married to Edith Cabeen at Aledo, Illinois.
Surviving are two daughters: Mrs. Harriet Griffin Eaton of Freeport, Ill., and Betty Jane Griffin of Aledo, Ill.: two sons, Aulden Griffin of Cedar Rapids and Robert C. Griffin of Grand Rapids, Mich.: and four grand-children: Jaqueline and Benny Griffin both of Cedar Rapids, Edith Harriet Eaton of Freeport, and Robert Attwood Griffin of Grand Rapids. He also leaves one sister, Miss Lelia E. Griffin, of Cedar Rapids, and a brother Charles W. Griffin, of Houston, Texas.
Dr. Griffin was graduated from the University of Pennsylvania College of Dentistry in 1900. He was a member of the Christian Church and had been a member of Mt. Hermon Lodge No. 263, A.F. and A.M., El Kahir Shrine Temple, and had been active in the Shrine Band. Funeral services will be held at Macomb at 3:15 P.M. Saturday. Friends may call at the Turner Chapel Friday evening.[1]
