Biography

Mary Griffin was born in 2 Dec. 1849 at Columbia County, Wisconsin, USA.[1] She appeared on the census of 1 Aug. 1850 in the household of her parents, Emerson Gilbert Griffin and Elvira (Sheldon) Griffin, at Fountain Prairie, Columbia Co., Wisconsin.[2]

She married John Francis Nickel circa 1879. Her father, Emerson G. Griffin wrote:

"Mary's husband is Nickel"[3]

She and John Francis Nickel appeared on the census of 15 June 1880 at Jennings, Decatur Co., Kansas.[4]

She and John lived in 1889 at Anaheim, Orange Co., California. Her father, Emerson G. Griffin wrote:

"Mary his sister is in California & they have 4 childen all girls. She is in (Anaheim, Los Angles Co.) and says the trees are as green & flowers as beautiful now as in June here and gardens are always in fine condition yielding their fruits and vegetables all the year round strawberries grow and ripen every month." [3]

Mary died on 22 March 1890 at Mendocino Co., California, at age 40 and was buried at Ukiah Cemetery, Ukiah, Mendocino Co., California. Her memorial identifies her parents, husband, and siblings. It has a photo of her gravestone.[5]
