Larkin was born in 1788. He was the son of Richard Griffin and Nancy Clarke. He passed away in 1876.

Also had a son named James M Griffin, who was killed in a hotel by a knife wound. The newspaper references James as the son of Col. Larkin Griffin of Edgefield District. It's in the Georgia courier. (Augusta, Ga.) 1826-1837, March 05, 1834, Page 2, Image 2 on Georgia Historic Newspapers
