Biography

Isabel was born around 1655-1659, as she was clearly an adult as of 1677. She was probably NOT born earlier than 1655, as her youngest children could have been born as late as 1703 in the case of Francis, Sr, and after 1700 in the case of Jane (since there is no documentation of her age when her father Robert wrote his will in 1712). While Isabel was probably born in Virginia, this is not a proven fact.

Isabel Mann passed away at some point after July 6, 1713, when she presented her late husband's will to the court at Varina, Henrico County, VA. Isabel married Robert Mann prior to the end of 1677, most likely in Virginia, when Isabel and Robert are mentioned in William Griffin's will. They were given responsibility for two of William's children. Her name was spelled several ways in documents, including Isabel, Isabelle, and Isabella, depending on which record one views.

Will Abstract: Will of William Griffin.[1]

Research Notes

Parents are uncertain, some sites has her father as Robert Griffin (with NO evidence provided to support the claim, as is common with online trees). She does appear to have had a close relative named William Griffin who mentions her and Robert Mann in his will of 1677. While the relationship is not stated in this will, she could be an older daughter of William. As of 2023, this is the only known document in Henrico County that refers to William Griffin. Also, the children listed in his 1677 will have not been researched by anyone, apparently. Efforts to find more info regarding them have not succeeded as of 2023. The will indicates that one daughter (other than Isabel) was also an adult, but the other children were minors in 1677.

Need proof of her last name at birth, if any records exist. She is referred to as 'Isabel' and 'Isabella' in various documents in Robert Mann's Biography. Her name does appear in at least one land transaction deed involving her husband Robert Mann.
