Notes
Note N4799"In 1832, Ebenezer and Absalom Griffin Built a sawmill north of the Dundas Street Brige in The Upper Mill site. 'It was raised in one day with 38 hands without whiskey." The site was in Grindstone Creek at Waterdown, an ideal location ofr a water-powered mill. "As trees were cleared from the Farms in Flamborough, the water flow in Grindstone Creek became so erratic that mill operators could no longer count on the water to power their mills. To overcome this, a ditch was dug that connected Lake Medad to Grindstone Creek, This failed both times it was tried (in 1828 and in 1870s)."
