Horace was born about 1839 in Pensacola, Florida. He was moved by his enslaver, Buck Owens, from Florida to Uvalde County, Texas. After emancipation in 1865, he was able to accumulate some money and purchase land in Uvalde. He eventually moved with his family to property now part of San Antonio and became farming there. He passed away in what is now San Antonio in 1914, and is buried in the family cemetery that he established on his land.[1]
