Hap'group R1b (M343;M269) - Genetic Family C https://www.familytreedna.com/public/griffith?iframe=yresults aligns Lewis Griffin 1776 NC - aft 1860 GA and Dempsey Griffin b.1795 and William Griffin into the same DNA Family- implying a common male ancestor at some unknown earlier point in time.

Dobbs County, NC, no longer exists. It is now within Wayne County, which includes Goldsboro, NC. The postulated parents, Dempsey Griffin and Sarah Walker, were also born in Dobbs Co. She died in Dobbs/Wayne, and he died in Edgecomb Co,, NE of there, a county that also come up often in Griffin/Griffith research.

Dempsey's postulated parents, John Griffin III and Sarah Hartt, both died in Edgecomb County. Sarah was born there, John III in Chowan, which is east of Edgecomb, on Albemarle Sound.

John Griffith II (note change from Griffin) and his wife Mary Hardy also died in Edgecomb Co. He was born in Chowan, like John II, and she in Isle of Wight, VA, which lies north of Chowan NC.

Then going back to John Griffith I, we find that he was probably born in Isle of Wight, VA and he died in Chowan, NC.

Beyond that, we have postulated John I's father to be Owen Griffith, who died in Isle of Wight, VA, ad who may have been born there, or else in Wales.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Lewis by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Lewis:

Our tree is pretty solid up to this point, with DNA confirmations and appropriate geographic patterns, but above this level it gets very muddy.

Father uncertain. Records are confusing. Could be one of these brothers: Dempsey Griffin 1750-1810, or John 1750-1805. William 1743-1813 also allegedly had son Lewis, but born 1784 to a mother who would have been 54 years old in 1784--seems unlikely! Lots of errant information out there on ancestry.com
