Richard Griffin married Nancy King Whitworth.^[1]

A second source states Richard married Nancy Caian Whitworth.^[2]

A third source says Richard married Nancy Cain Whitworth. This source shows Richard as the son of William Griffin (b. ca 1755; NC/d. 23 Oct 1837; GA) and Martha Stovall. He believes Richard died in either Franklin County or De Kalb County, Georgia.^[3]

According to Howard P. Griffin, Jr., Richard was born in Buncombe County, North Carolina. Buncombe was created from Burke and Rutherford Counties in 1791. ^[4]

1800-1820 Census records: No Griffins are in Buncombe County, North Carolina. Did the family simply pass through the county on their way to Georgia? If so, where did the rest of Richard's family settle?

There are three Richard Griffins enumerated in 1830 Georgia. "The Columbia County, GA Griffins are from a different family and the Richard M. Griffin in Decatur County is too young to be Richard Edgar Griffin, born ca. 1804."^[5]
