It has not been established when or why James Chipman Griffin came to nova scotia.[Terri's note - His family was part of the "New England Planter" movement in 1761" ]He was born in Stonington, CT and his parents and siblings continued to live there. However his uncle, Samuel Griffin, and his grandmother, Ann(Avery) Miner (wife of Sylvanus Miner) resided in Horton Township. James seems to have come at some time before or during the American Revolution and resided temporarily with his grandmother and her family, He was married in Horton, and was living in Parrsboro when his first two children were baptized in 1788. Soon after he moved back to Horton
