Biography

Daniel Griffin was born in 1711, the son of Shemuel Griffin and Mary Gage.[1]

Daniel Griffin recorded his intention to marry Beulah Bailey on 31 Jan 1736 in Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts. [2] The actual marriage date was 24 Feb 1735/6.[3]

Beulah moved to her husband's town in Newbury, where they recorded their first three children:[4]

  1. Shimuel, b. 27 Apr. 1737; m. Abigail Butterfield, 24 Jul. 1764; d. 14 Dec. 1804
  2. Daniel, b. 23 Feb. 1738/39; d. 22 Oct. 1756, and
  3. Beulah, b. 28 Mar. 1741; m. James Annis, 30 May 1770.

Beulah and Daniel moved to Tewksbury, Massachusetts, and they continued to build their family with several more children as follows:[5]

  1. Uriah, b. 9 Aug. 1744; m. Marcy Haseltine, 24 Dec. 1767
  2. Dudley, b. 3 Sep. 1746; d. 23 Sep. 1746
  3. Sarah, b. 7 Sep. 1747; m. Benjamin Blanchard, 3 Jan 1775; d. 31 May 1801
  4. Dudley, b. 7 Jul. 1751; m. Esther Bowers, 22 Nov. 1773; d. 3 Nov. 1833 (Upper Canada)
  5. Rhoda, b. 15 Mar 1754; m. Dr. Silas Ball, 6 Apr. 1775
  6. Hannah, b. 18 Oct. 1756; m. Phineas Annis, Apr. 1774; d. 21 Sep. 1839
  7. Lydia, b. 15 Aug. 1759. d. 23 Aug. 1762, and
  8. Lydia, b. 31 Mar. 1763.

On 1 Jun. 1773, Daniel and Beulah “of Tewksbury” deeded property in Newbury, MA to their nephew Jonathan Griffin “of Newbury” (son of Daniel's late brother Jonathan Griffin), land that they had inherited from the estate of Daniel’s father Shimuel Griffin.[6] Daniel and his wife were living in Tewksbury, MA when the 1790 census was taken.[7]

Daniel Griffin died on 14 Jan 1799 in Tewksbury, Massachusetts at age 87. [8]

Griffin-13025 and Griffin-6270 appear to represent the same person because: Sorry, created Abigail Butterfield's husband and Shemuel & Daniel didn't come ups but when I went to put in his mother she did. Please merge.
