Disproven Spouse

She cannot be the same Elizabeth Griffin who married Henry Green in 1721, that is named in Henry's will as his wife[3]as she was not yet born at the time of that marriage.

The confusion arises because Henry names Richard Griffin as one of the executors of his will and states that Richard is his brother-in-law. Richard is his brother-in-law by virtue of marriage to his sister Mary, not by his wife Elizabeth being the sister of Richard. Terms like brother-in-law had the same meaning then as they do today, which is kinship by marriage. However, they often had different meanings, such as being a brother-in-law by marriage to his sister, not his wife. See Early Relationships Defined.

Elizabeth Griffin was born after 17 October 1732.[1] She is the daughter of William Griffin.

She is named in her father's Will, dated 17 October 1750.[1] Her father bequeathed her one cow and calf when "she comes to the age of eighteen years."

She passed away after 17 October 1750.[1]

I'd like to suggest that Elizabeth Griffin, daughter of William Griffin, be disconnected from shown husband(s) Henry Green. For easy reference I have added the image of William's will to Elizabeth's profile. In the will he leaves items to his daughter Elizabeth when she reaches the age of 18. Given the will is written in 1750 she was born later than 1732. She can not be the wife of Henry Green, at least not at the time of the writing of the will. Additionally Henry Green and wife Elizabeth are recorded in the Bristol Parish Vestry Records with children as follows:

John son of Henry & Eliz Green Born 10 Jan Bap 22 Sep 1724 Darcus dau of Henry & Eliz Green Born 27 Sep 1726

This is not a complete list of their children; there are other children recorded in the will of Henry Green.

I agree and correspondingly that the children of Henry Green be removed as Elizabeth's children as they were born before her birth. Accordingly, I have updated her profile.
