Life Story Birth 1756 York, Virginia Marriage 1801 Bourbon Co, Kentucky Posted by amgardne Death 1851 Fillmore, Andrew, Missouri, United States Burial: Fillmore Cemetery, Fillmore, Andrew County, Missouri, USA

My 4th gr-grandfather was John Griffith, b. ca. 1756, in Va. Served as a drummer boy in the Revolutionary War with the 8th Va. Regt. Married Nancy Francis, 11 Dec., 1800, Bourbon Co. Ky. They moved to northwest Missouri ca. 1840. --- John Griffith was rumored to be a drummer boy and was born ca. 1756, in Virginia. He was my 4th gr-grandfather and was married to Anne ( Nancy ) Francis, on 11 December, 1800, in Bourbon County, Ky. I would like to know the names of his parents and/or siblings. He moved with his family to northwest Missouri ca. 1840, and died ca. 1851 --- JOHN FRANCIS (1728-Penn) married Sarah Walton (1732-Penn) 1757 in Penn. Daughter: ANNE NANCY FRANCIS(HARGON-I have NO clue) 1779-1866 in Andrew co. Missouri (and buried at Fillmore Cem., Fillmore Missouri with her husband JOHN GRIFFITH. They had a large family, 1 of their daughters were HEPHZIBAH (1806-1892, KY) who married JAMES BRADFORD (1802-1881), they settled (1840's) Andrew co., Missouri. They had 7-9 children. My thread then becomes: 1 son-Ezra(M) Elvira WILKES, their son Emmitt(M) CORA JOHNSTON, 1990 in Rapid City, S.D. 1 (of 3 sons) Glenn was my Grand-father, who (with scaffolding skills-1939) helped with the building MT. RUSHMORE. He died Dec. 2006. He was 1 of the last few left. --- John and Nancy Griffith are both buried beside a large pine tree in Fillmore Cemetery, Andrew County, MO. The Daughters of the American Revolution have put DAR markers on both graves in memory of the families sacrifice. I have a large number of family there, and every Memorial Day put small flowers and a nice size flag on their graves. Also there is a DAR chapter in Nodaway County, MO named for him, The John Griffith Chapter. You might be able to contact them, just google Daughters of the American Revolution, and try to find a listing for Missouri chapters. --- John L. Griffith B. 1774 and his marriage to Anne Nancy Francis was in 1819 in Bourbon Ky --- John Griffith Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Savannah, Missouri: The name John Griffith was selected to honor the only Revolutionary soldier known to be buried in Andrew County (Fillmore Cemetery). John Griffith was born in 1756 in Virginia and died in 1851, Fillmore, Missouri. He served as a drummer boy and was in the 4th, 8th, and 12th Virginia Regiments. -Chapter History---Interest in forming a Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Andrew County culminated at a meeting August 20, 1969 at the home of Mrs. Byron Nuckols in Savannah. Mrs. Nuckols, State Historian at the time, and a member of St. Joseph Chapter, is credited with recognizing this potential. Application for membership in the NSDAR was made through Mrs. A. Frank Stephens of Kansas City, State Organizing Secretary. Mrs. Lloyd Schmitt was made a member at large in order to become Organizing Regent. Following the acceptance of twelve members by the National Society, organization of the chapter was completed on October 9, 1969.
