Biography

William was born in 1851 at "Brickburn" Mitchell's Flat Singleton the son of William Griffith and Mary Gregg. He passed away in 1939 at Mitchell's Flat, Singleton and was buried at the Branxton cemetery aged 88 years. Married 1877 to Annie Ballintyne.

1937 Feb 8 Argus: Mr. and Mrs. W. Griffiths, well known identities of Mitchell's Flat celebrated their diamond wedding on Saturday. Mrs. G. W. Gardner, of Dunolly, is a sister of Mr. Griffiths, and it will be two years in July since Mr. and Mrs. Gardner celebrated their own diamond, wedding. 1939 Nov 8 Singleton Argus: DEATH OF MR WILLIAM GRIFFITH, SENR, A very old and highly respected resident of the district, in the person of Mr William Griffith, senr, died shortly after 1 o'clock this morning at his home in Mitchell's Flat. The deceased, who was a retired farmer, was 88 years of age, and was born at Scott's Flat. He lived at Mitchell's Flat practically all his life. His wife predeceased him in March, 1938, and he leaves a family of four sons and three daughters, viz., Messrs George (Tambo, Q.), William (Mitchell's Flat), James (Muswellbrook), Robert (Mitchell's Flat), Mesdames J. P. Brunner (Glendon Brook), W. Brunner (Mitchell's Flat), and F. Bourke (Elderslie). The funeral will leave Mitchell's Flat at 11 a.m. to-morrow (Thursday), and the interment will be in the Presbyterian cemetery at Branxton.
